Residents who are in their golden years are assured of around-the-clock monitoring, and professional nursing care. This home away from home provides three wholesome meals a day and menu planning is done by a qualified nutritionist. Furthermore, the staff at Mattanja Home for the Elderly are always ready to assist with personal grooming so that residents can fully enjoy their golden years with the dignity they deserve.

Mattanja is situated in the beautiful village of Gansbaai in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.

Gansbaai is a fishing town and popular tourist destination in the Overberg District Municipality. It is known for its dense population of great white sharks and as a whale-watching location.

The Overstrand council governs the southwestern coast of the Overberg, from Pringle Bay to Pearly Beach; its headquarters are in Hermanus but there is an office in Gansbaai.

Mattanja’s facilities has been designed to perfectly fit into this environment with beautiful gardens and a near vicinity to the ocean.

Mattanja offers a wide variety of continuous activities. We offer three daily activities in the home that include games, puzzles, crafts, and many other fulfilling choices. We also have weekly outings for shopping, church service, and other community events.

Respite Care

Respite care is temporary relief that allows the primary caregiver of an elder time away and a short rest period. We offer respite care to give you, the primary caregiver, to allow you a break from the demands of care giving responsibilities. Respite residents are still able to enjoy all the care and amenities at Mattanja, whilst you are assured that they are in a safe and secure environment. We understand the enormous responsibility it is to care for an Elder, and thus make respite care available so that you can give back to yourself so that you can continue to care for your loved one.
